Relief for Herniated, Bulging, and Slipped Discs

In your lower back or your neck. Here's what care looks like for each.

Lower Back

When It's Shooting Down Your Leg

A disc low in your back presses on the nerve and sends pain, numbness, or tingling into your hip and leg. Back On Trac decompression takes the pressure off that disc while adjustments restore the motion around it — so you can sit through a workday and sleep through a night again.

Neck

When It's Running Into Your Arm

A disc in your neck sends pain, tingling, or weakness down your arm and makes it hard to get comfortable at night. Cervi-Trac, our seated decompression system for the neck, eases that pressure alongside adjustments matched to how irritated the disc is.

Already Diagnosed

You've Already Been Told It's a Disc

Many of our patients came in after being told surgery was the next step, hoping there was something else to try first. Bring your imaging and whatever you've been told. A diagnosis tells us where to start — it doesn't decide how your story ends.

How We Get You Better

A Complete Approach to Disc Pain

Every disc case starts the same way: finding out exactly what's wrong and where. A thorough exam tells us which nerve is involved and what's pressing on it, and we take imaging when we need a clearer picture. You'll know what's going on before any care begins.

From there we treat it from more than one angle. Adjustments restore motion to the joints around the disc, spinal decompression eases the pressure on the disc itself, and the technique gets matched to how irritated things are. Combining them is what gets results for disc pain that hasn't budged with one approach alone.

About our adjustments

Technology Built for Disc Pressure

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression for Disc Pain

Spinal decompression is built for exactly this problem. Gentle, computer-controlled traction creates space between your vertebrae and eases the pressure off the disc and the nerve it's been irritating — precisely, and at a level set to what your body is ready for.

We have both systems here: Back On Trac for the lower back and Cervi-Trac for the neck. You sit back and relax while the technology does the work. Most patients find the sessions comfortable, and many find them relaxing.

Spinal decompression helps with:

  • Herniated or bulging discs
  • Pain, numbness, or tingling down an arm or leg
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Spinal stenosis

Many of our patients came in after being told surgery was the next step.

"Probably the most efficient office workflow I've ever seen. I came in with constant lower back pain and was unable to walk more than 5 minutes at a time without pain. I'm about 2/3rds through my treatment plan and now can walk about 30 minutes before the first twinge of pain hits. Also, my neck has never felt better and my regular headaches are gone."

Herniated Disc Questions, Answered

Can a chiropractor help a herniated disc?

Yes — and for most people it's the right place to start. We're not putting a disc "back in place," because that isn't how discs work. What we can do is take the pressure off the disc and the nerve it's irritating and restore motion to the joints around it, which is what most disc pain actually responds to. Most people with a disc problem never end up needing surgery.

Can a chiropractor make a herniated disc worse?

It's the most common question we get, and it's a fair one. The answer comes down to examining you first and matching the technique to what we find. We don't adjust anyone until we've done an exam and explained what we found, and for an irritated disc we have gentler options — including a low-force instrument adjustment and a drop table — as well as decompression, which involves no thrust at all. If your exam points to something we shouldn't be treating, we'll tell you.

Can you tell if I have a herniated disc without an MRI?

An exam tells us a great deal. Reflexes, strength, and sensation testing trace your symptoms back to a specific nerve, and that points us to the disc involved. Digital X-rays show alignment and the space between your vertebrae, though they don't show the disc itself. If what we find suggests you need advanced imaging, we'll tell you and point you in the right direction rather than treating around it.

What's the difference between a bulging disc, a herniated disc, and a slipped disc?

A bulge is a disc pushing outward past where it should sit. A herniation means the softer center has pushed through the outer wall. "Slipped disc" isn't a medical term at all — it's the everyday phrase for either one. What matters for your care isn't the label, it's whether the disc is pressing on a nerve and where.

Will I need surgery?

Most people don't. Surgery is usually considered when conservative care hasn't worked or when there's significant nerve compression, and a lot of our patients came to us hoping to try everything else first. We can't promise you'll avoid it, and we won't pretend otherwise — but if your case genuinely needs a surgical opinion, we'll tell you that too.

How long until I feel better?

It depends on which disc is involved, how long it's been going on, and how your body responds. Disc pain generally takes longer than a simple joint problem, and decompression works as a series of sessions rather than a single visit. You'll get a realistic timeline in your report of findings, based on what we actually found — not a number we picked before examining you.

When is disc pain an emergency?

If you lose control of your bladder or bowels, have numbness in your groin or inner thighs, or notice weakness in an arm or leg that's getting worse, go to the ER right away. Those can be signs of serious nerve compression that needs immediate medical care.

Do I need a referral, and do you take insurance?

No referral needed — you can book directly with us. We accept most major insurance plans, and coverage varies enough from plan to plan that the best way to know is to call us at (479) 435-6888. We'll verify your benefits before your appointment.
