Neck Pain Doesn't Look the Same for Everyone

Whatever brought you here, the right starting point is understanding what's actually causing it.

Acute Neck Pain

It Came On Suddenly

You woke up and couldn't turn your head, or it locked up after a workout, a long drive, or a fender bender. Sudden neck pain often responds well to care, and getting it checked early keeps your body from bracing around it for weeks.

Chronic Neck Pain

It's Been Going On for Months or Years

The tightness never fully lets go. Maybe it comes with headaches, or it creeps into your shoulders by the end of every day. Stretching and massage feel good for an afternoon, then it's back. Pain that keeps returning has a cause nobody's addressed yet.

Everyday Neck Pain

Your Daily Life Is the Trigger

Hours looking down at a phone or laptop. A monitor that sits too low. Sleeping on your stomach. Carrying a baby on one hip or nursing in the same position every few hours. Your neck holds up a heavy head all day, and small habits add up to real strain for the whole family.

Neck Adjustments Without the Twisting and Cracking

A lot of people are nervous about having their neck adjusted, and we get it. The picture most people have is a quick, forceful twist. That's not what we do.

We start by finding the problem. A hands-on neurological and spinal exam, plus digital X-rays taken right here in the office when you need them, show us how your neck is positioned and where things aren't moving the way they should. Then we correct it with the Torque Release Technique, a gentle, instrument-assisted adjustment that's precise and low-force. Your head stays still. There's no twisting, no popping, and no cracking.

About our adjustments

When Adjustments Aren't the Whole Answer

Non-Surgical Decompression for Disc and Nerve Pain in the Neck

Some neck pain comes from a disc that's bulging or herniated, or a nerve that's being pinched where it leaves the spine. That's often the kind of pain that runs into your shoulder blade, down your arm, or leaves your fingers tingling. When your exam and X-rays point there, we add Cervi-Trac to your plan. You sit back comfortably while it gently takes pressure off the disc and the nerve it's been irritating.

Cervi-Trac is often a fit for neck pain from:

  • Herniated or bulging discs in the neck
  • Pain, numbness, or tingling that runs into the arm or hand
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Chronic neck pain that hasn't responded to other care

Many of our patients came in after trying everything else first.

"I've been coming to Abide since 2018. I had a neck injury that wouldn't allow me to turn to the left or right. I couldn't sleep on a pillow and had to sleep on a cold gel pack in order to fall asleep. Today I have full range of motion in my neck. Also I sleep on a pillow now and no longer need a cold gel pack to fall asleep. Dr. Watkins was absolutely a God send. I can't sing his praises loud enough."

What Happens When You Come In for Neck Pain

The order never changes. How the steps fall across your appointments depends on your situation.

1

Consultation

We start sitting down, not on a table. Tell us when your neck pain started, what makes it better or worse, whether it comes with headaches or arm symptoms, and what you've already tried.

2

Exam & X-Rays

Neurological testing, orthopedic assessment, and spinal analysis, plus digital X-rays right here in the office when we need to see the structure of your neck.

3

Report of Findings

We walk you through what we found in plain language: what's going on, what's causing your pain, and what we think it'll take to correct it.

4

Your Care Plan

A plan built around your findings and your goals, including adjustments and Cervi-Trac decompression if you need it. Your first adjustment always comes after your report of findings, never before.

Neck Pain Questions, Answered

Can a chiropractor help with neck pain?

For many people, yes. Neck pain is one of the most common reasons patients come to Abide. We focus on finding and correcting what's driving your pain rather than just quieting the symptom. After your exam, we'll be straight with you about whether we can help, and if your pain needs care outside what chiropractic can offer, we'll tell you and point you in the right direction.

Do you crack or twist the neck?

No. We use the Torque Release Technique, a gentle, low-force adjustment delivered with a handheld instrument. Your head stays still, and there's no twisting, popping, or cracking. It's a good fit for people who've avoided chiropractic care because they didn't want their neck manipulated.

How soon will my neck feel better?

It depends on what's causing your pain, how long it's been there, and how your body responds. Some people notice a difference early, and pain that's built up over years usually takes longer to turn around. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your report of findings, based on what we actually find.

Can neck problems cause headaches?

Yes. Tension headaches often start in the upper neck and the muscles around it, which is why so many of our neck pain patients mention headaches too. We'll look at both during your exam.

What if the pain runs down my arm or my hand goes numb?

That can mean a disc or a nerve in your neck is involved, which is exactly why we start with an exam and X-rays before recommending anything. When it is, we can add non-surgical Cervi-Trac decompression to your care. If you have sudden weakness in your arm or hand, get it checked right away.

Do you treat neck pain after a car accident?

Yes. Whiplash and neck pain after a collision are worth getting checked early, even when they seem minor at first, because symptoms often show up days later. If you have severe pain, numbness, or weakness after a crash, go to the ER first. Otherwise, give the office a call at (479) 435-6888 and we'll get you in.

Do I need a referral, and do you take insurance?

No referral needed. You can book directly with us. We accept most major insurance plans, and coverage varies enough from plan to plan that the best way to know is to call us at (479) 435-6888. We'll verify your benefits before your appointment.
