Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression for Sciatica
When a bulging or herniated disc is pressing on the nerve, we add spinal decompression to your plan. Our seated Back On Trac system gently takes pressure off the disc so the nerve has room to settle down.

Sciatica Questions, Answered
How do I know if it's sciatica or just back pain?
Sciatica travels. The pain, numbness, or tingling runs from your lower back or buttock down the back of one leg, sometimes past the knee and into the foot. Back pain usually stays in your back. The only way to know for sure what's going on is an exam, which is exactly where we start.
Will an adjustment make my sciatica worse?
It's a fair worry when a nerve is already irritated. We choose the technique for your situation and comfort, including a low-force instrument adjustment or a drop table, and adjust your plan to how your body responds.
Do I need an MRI or surgery?
Not usually as a first step. Most people with sciatica are good candidates for conservative care, and many of our patients came in hoping to avoid surgery. If your exam points to something that needs advanced imaging or care outside what we offer, we'll tell you and point you in the right direction.
I've already tried injections and physical therapy. Why would this be different?
Injections calm inflammation around the nerve for a while, and physical therapy strengthens the muscles around it. Both can help. Neither one changes what's pressing on the nerve in the first place. That's what we're looking for, and it's what your care plan is built around.
Can you help with sciatica during pregnancy?
Yes. Dr. Watkins is Webster Technique certified, and sciatica is common as your body changes to make room for a growing baby. We don't use decompression during pregnancy, but gentle adjustments are safe throughout. Our pregnancy care page has the full details.
How soon will I feel better?
It depends on what's pressing on the nerve, how long it's been going on, and how your body responds. Some people notice a difference early, and sciatica caused by a disc usually takes longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your report of findings, based on what we actually find.
When is sciatica an emergency?
If you lose control of your bladder or bowels, have numbness in your groin or inner thighs, or notice weakness in your leg that's getting worse, go to the ER right away. Those can be signs of severe nerve compression that needs immediate medical care.
Do I need a referral, and do you take insurance?
